Goodnight & Goodluck | April Fool's Day Virus

One last post before i turn off my computer and go study .... its 10: 29 pm by the way smh.

There seems to be some new April Fool's Day virus going around today that has attacked about 10 million Windows computers worldwide. The virus called Conflicker, striked many businesses and home PCs; including all the computers at my sisters job. =.[

I'm kinda paranoid though. I am not going to stay on the computer til midnight tonight because that is when experts speculate it will strike again.

And just so you know i'm not bluffing, i saw this all over the local news channels like Fox & ABC. So read the entire article about Conflicker over at, Guardian.co.uk

If my life was a movie, I would have the greatest movie soundtrack

Soooo i think it just hit me the other day that music is the 1 thing that keeps me going throughout day. When i really think about, i dont know what i would do if i didnt have my Sansa mp3 player at all times. I do hw, eat, watch tv, and fall asleep with music. I even give my life a soundtrack .... lol and it is not as crazy as it sounds because everyone does it. Like, your going to school or your job, and right before you get there you put on that "song" that just gets you hyped / depressed depending on your mood, and it just becomes your theme music! Well, i just take it a step further, I'll act like its a movie scene and make the simple moments seem like cinematic gold with the dramatic music and everything .... lol maybe i just have too much time on my hands

But anyways.... over the weekend my older sister gave me a list of songs to download from the 80s and 90s for her new ipod. And now I'm hooked. She had me listening to everything from En Vogue, Cher, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Tina Turner, Karyn White, Maxi Priest and many more. In fact, I have a a whole new appreciation for some of the things she listens to, even though she's always complaining about how i listen to "garbage" (mainly because its rap). But i'll get her to come around sooner or later to my music.

If you are a fan of 80s/90s music (pop, reggae, alternative .... idk) here are a few i enjoyed:

Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar
We Belong Together - Pat Benatar
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves - Cher
So Close - Daryl Hall & John Oates
Last Dance - Donna Summers
Waitin on You - En Vogue
Don't Let Go - En Vogue
Night Nurse - Gregory Issac
I'm Not Your Superwoman - Karyn White
Wild World - Maxi Priest
Never Did Say Goodbye - Maxi Priest
Come On Over To My Place - Teddy Pendergrass

The "Good Black Man"

All my black ladies, (or gentlemen if thats how you like it) what things define a man as being a "good black man"????? At first, I never really put any thought into this but when I read this post from Brown Sugar 28, it really opened my eyes to what black culture now accepts from our men in order to be called a "Good Black Man". And honestly, what we accept is quite sad ..... take a look at an excerpt from the post:

"Usually the determination of a black man being “good” involves a combination of the following:

1. College educated
2. Not college educated but
3. Employed
4. Doesn’t have kids or
5. Has kids but takes care of them

If the man in question has any three of the five he’s deemed good and definitely marriageable and therefore worth holding on to for dear life.

But I’m with Chris Rock when it comes to this kind of thinking: When did we start giving brothers cookies for
doing what they’re supposed to do?

Last I checked any of the five above are minimum basic requirements. Those are just starting points where I might be willing to listen to your pitch as to why I should even think about giving you my number. And in my world, college educated is a must and it’s not good enough for you to just be employed. You need a career, not just a job.

Why, as black women, are we willing to accept so little. I know plenty of men who offer the bare minimum in the way of the five above, yet walk around like they’re the best thing since sliced bread; that I should be grateful that they took the time to bless me with their presence.

Yeah. Okay."

My Sunday w/ Braids

My Sunday was totally snatched from me when i decided i was going to go get my hair braided in box braids. Now, in the back of my mind i always knew my day was over from the moment i bought the hair... but still forrrrrrr some wierd, n crazy reason I thought "it won't be tooo long". I said to myself, "maybe it will only take 4 to 5 hours if i get there when she opens up her shop".

LOL at me because everyone else living in queens thought that same thought too. I got there at 10 am with my mom, mad hype and ready to get this process started. My mom parked about 3 stores away from our destination, and she is slowly making her way to the door when we see another woman and a girl (in her teens) walking quite briskly in that same direction. Now, it never occcured to me that they were probably going where I was going, but my mom being "ever-so-wise" got the drift immediatly. Out of no where she starts speed walking and dragging me along as well. O_o

However being that was so early in the morning, and my mind/body doesn't begin to function at full speed until at least 11:45 am on weekends, so my only intention was to get her to slow down. Likewise, my laziness led to the other people making it to the shop first where I also encountered 2 other ladies waiting to get their hair braided as well.............. Soooo in all I had 4 people ahead of me to get their hair done before i was even to be looked at. AND to top it off, i wanted box braids which take forever and year

I got home at 6:30 pm and my head was sore.... but in the end it was worth it. No more getting up early trying to do my hair. Its as easy as oil, mousse and go.

I'll put pics of my hair up later .... =D
